In this section, you will find multiple online learning modules that you can complete when it is convenient for you. You can also earn Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits free of charge. The type of CEU credits available varies based on the module.

Strategies for Change Courses

Strategies for Change gives a comprehensive overview of the information you need to end chronic homelessness for people who have serious mental illnesses, including those with co-occurring substance use disorders. It offers practical advice for how to plan, organize, and sustain a comprehensive, integrated system of care. Each module is worth one CEU credit (type varies depending on module). Feel free to complete just one, or as many as you would like.

Strategies for Change – Module 1: Homelessness 101

This module provides basic information about homelessness. It provides an overall description of causes of homelessness and information on how people become homeless. It focuses on factors that increase the risk for long-term homelessness, explains why ending homelessness is important, and introduces key characteristics of promising solutions to the problem.

Strategies for Change – Module 2: Strategic Practices

This module describes features of evidence-based and promising practices to address the problem of homelessness. Many types of services that play a part in a comprehensive approach to addressing homelessness are covered, including mental health and alcohol and drug abuse treatment, prevention services, and various other services.

Strategies for Change – Module 3: Partnering and Planning

This module presents the steps for implementing system change to develop a comprehensive, integrated system to address the problem of homelessness.

Strategies for Change – Module 4: Financing

This module explains how agencies and communities can obtain funding to provide housing and supportive services to people who are homeless.

Strategies for Change – Module 5: Evaluation

This module addresses how to evaluate the effectiveness of efforts to combat homelessness. It provides a general overview of evaluation, identifies factors important for effective evaluations, and describes the steps involved in performing evaluations.
